The Cadre Headquarters isn't particularly durable compared to most other HQ buildings in the game. Although it isn't the weakest (that would be the Settlement), it most certainly should be carefully looked after. With the Tau lacking in both turrets and minefields, the Cadre Headquarters is difficult to defend. This is especially notable when playing a Destroy HQ game, in which the enemy must destroy your headquarters.
The Cadre Headquarters allows up to 6 Plasma Generators to be fielded. If you are going a power-heavy build, remember to build another headquarters or two (preferably near a position you are holding so that it can act as a shield or create a chokepoint). Builds that include XV88 Broadsides, Hammerhead Gunships, the Ethereal, Krootoxen and Skyray Missile Gunships are quite power-heavy, so keep that in mind.
If you really want to, one can guard their Cadre Headquarters by using XV88 Broadside Battlesuits as "turrets," however it is often better using the broadsides to slowly push forward through the enemy or in choke points, as they will most likely get more action.
Note that the Cadre Headquarters is one of the cheapest HQs in the game to build, so don't be frightened of draining your resources when you need to produce more Headquarters.
